Drum Scouts presents B.E.A.T.S. (Being Empathetic And Tolerant Students)Drum-Scouts-Logo_1201

The B.E.A.T.S. program was designed by Kalani Das, MT-BC and Robin L. Jarvis, MS, SPHR as a pro-social behavioral approach to alleviate bullying in our communities.  They are both passionate about creating a better world for all people, especially children.  The impact of bullying in our communities continues to escalate, but they hope this program will help.  The research supports their hopes. According to data provided by Garringer (2008) up to 44% of children in school experience bullying at least once per school year and that 30% of U.S. students report that bullying is a frequent experience, either as the bully or the victim.

This program, intended for grades 4th-12th, utilizes group discussion and weekly out-of-school assignments that center on certain topics pertaining to bullying. Subject areas that the program focuses on are social skills, social studies, written and verbal language skills, and reading comprehension.
